OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE PROGRAMME

This programme prepares students to work as professional translators, terminologists and project managers, specialising in the translation of business/economic and scientific/technical and audiovisual texts (film and video subtitling, lipsync dubbing, voice over narration). Students study translation practice in small groups with a focus on professional standards, alongside core modules on translation issues. There is a wide range of options to choose from, ranging from computer-assisted translation tools to creative writing.  Apart from our two official languages (English and French), languages currently on offer (subject to demand) are: Arabic, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Chinese and sign languages, all paired with English and French.

Learning from professionals and academics in a supportive environment, our students enter a highly specialised programme, preparing them for a growing professional market as well as for the exciting research opportunities in this expanding field. Professional translators bring their real-world experience and standards into the classroom as tutors. Experienced academic staff and lecturers, mostly from the University of Yaoundé I, with excellent research records help our students develop a broad understanding of the current and future challenges of translation.  Visiting lecturers from abroad share their professional experience.
